Admission Requirements

The following requirements must be fulfilled to get admitted to the University of Ottawa:

International students are considered on case-by-case basis. There can be some additional requirements, depending on the program you are applying to.
Students are required to submit their original transcripts from their last attended academic institutions. If they are not in English, then submit the translated copies of the same along with the originals.
Should provide the certificate issued by the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) that compares educational credentials from other countries to educational standards in Canada.
Applicants must be 18 years old at the time of the beginning of the course.
You need to submit your English language proficiency test scores if you are coming from a non-English speaking country.

Please note: If you are not a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada, you must obtain a valid study permit before you come to Canada.

Accomodation

On-Campus Housing
The university has ten student residences: Le Blanc Hall, Marchand Hall, Stanton, Thompson Hall, Hyman Soloway, Friel, Henderson, Rideau, 45 Mann, 90 University and Annex. The university offers a variety of housing options. Four of the seven residences are conventional single and double bedrooms. Brooks and Hyman Soloway are 2–4 bedroom apartment-styled residences, while 90 University is a two bedroom suite-styled residence. On January 24, 2018, the new Annex residence was officially announced to students. The new residence will have 1-5 bedroom units including studio-styled single rooms. Residents are represented by the Residents' Association of the University of Ottawa (RAUO). With a mandate to help improve the quality of life in residences, each building elects a representative to the association.

Off-Campus Housing
The off-campus hoses can be rooms for rent, studio apartments, apartment flats and much more that are located within the vicinity of the institution. The students should come well in advance and look for residence options before the classes resume. The student associations at the university help students out with off-campus accommodation and assist them with the process.

Homestay
Coming to a new country can be exciting, but also intimidating. The Homestay program partners you with a family, who will help you to adjust to your new city by offering advice and information on getting around. You may choose to stay with the family for the rest of your study period, or just until you find your own apartment. While in homestay, you will also have the advantage of being in an environment in which English is the primary language.

In keeping with its commitment to the French-speaking world, the University of Ottawa offers a Differential Tuition Fee Exemption Scholarship to international Francophone and Francophile students enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s program given in French, or in the French Immersion Stream. This major assistance reduces tuition fees considerably. International English Entrance Scholarship: Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Vietnam and Africa	Ranges from $2,250 to $7,500 per term, depending on the candidate’s country of origin and the faculty offering the program. Note: Renewable each term (maximum of 12 terms).	The University of Ottawa is proud of its internationally diverse student body. This renewable scholarship is for international students who are citizens of Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Vietnam or any country in Africa, and who are newly admitted in the fall 2024 term or thereafter in an eligible undergraduate program offered in English. This significant contribution reduces tuition fees by $5,000 to $15,000 per year, depending on the country and faculty. The scholarship is awarded automatically to eligible candidates upon full-time enrolment. Tuition fees are immediately reduced by the amount of the scholarship. This significant contribution reduces tuition fees by $5,000 to $25,000 per year, depending on the program and faculty. The scholarship is awarded automatically to successful candidates upon full-time enrolment. Tuition fees are immediately reduced by the amount of the scholarship. Faculty of Arts Dean's Merit Scholarship	$4,000 ($1,000 per year)	The Faculty of Arts awards 10 of these renewable scholarships, each valued at a total of $4,000. Applicants must be enrolled full-time, and for the first time, in an undergraduate program at the Faculty of Arts and have a minimum admission average of 90%. This scholarship can be renewed for the three following years provided the student has a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 9.00 or higher at the end of a term (with at least 24 units) and is enrolled full time at the Faculty of Arts. No application is required for this scholarship. The scholarship is awarded during the summer preceding your studies. Note: All eligible students, including international students, are automatically considered for this award.	---
Faculty of Engineering Dean's Merit Scholarship	Admission average of: 95-100% = $5,000 90-94.9% = $4,000	The Faculty of Engineering awards 35 of these scholarships to students with an admission average between 95 and 100% ($5,000) or between 90 and 94.9% ($4,000). Applicants must be enrolled full time, and for the first time, in an undergraduate program at the Faculty of Engineering. No application is required for this scholarship; all eligible students including international students are automatically considered for this award.	---
Faculty of Engineering Memorial Scholarship	$2,000	The Faculty of Engineering awards this scholarship to seven female students—one from each of the engineering programs (excluding computer science). This $2,000 award is given to applicants with a minimum admission average of 80% and who best fulfill the eligibility criteria. To apply, students must submit a letter explaining why they are applying to an engineering program and also submit an up-to-date resumé highlighting their latest academic and extracurricular achievements. Applications must be submitted online. Note: All female students admitted to the Faculty of Engineering, including international students, are eligible for this scholarship. Deadline: March 31	---
Faculty of Social Sciences Dean's Excellence Award for International Students	$1,500	The Faculty of Social Sciences awards a $1,500 scholarship to one or more international students enrolled full time, for the first time, in an undergraduate program at the Faculty of Social Sciences with a minimum admission average of 92%.	---
Education Bursary for International Students with Disabilities	Variable	Students with a permanent disability or a permanent medical condition that prevents them from taking more than 12 units per term may be eligible for a tuition bursary. Students must contact the Academic Accommodations Service to determine their eligibility.
