Admission Requirements

The following requirements must be fulfilled to get admitted to Toronto Metropolitan University:

International students are considered on case-by-case basis. There can be some additional requirements, depending on the program you are applying to.
Students are required to submit their original transcripts from their last attended academic institutions. If they are not in English, then submit the translated copies of the same along with the originals.
Should provide the certificate issued by the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) that compares educational credentials from other countries to educational standards in Canada.
Applicants must be 18 years old at the time of the beginning of the course.
You need to submit your English language proficiency test scores if you are coming from a non-English speaking country.

Please Note: If you are not a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada, you must obtain a valid study permit before you come to Canada.

Accomodation

On-Campus Housing
Toronto Metropolitan University has an extensive Residence Life Program to support the students while they are on campus with the best possible facilities and student services. The students are allocated accommodation as per their needs and requirements. The college provides its students with fully furnished apartments and there are units for students and family housing units. The students have other options like dormitory as well. Every unit is furnished with a kitchenette with basic cooking applications as well.

Off-Campus Housing
Off-campus hoses can be rooms for rent, studio apartments, apartment flats, and much more that are located within the vicinity of the institution. The students should come well in advance and look for residence options before the classes resume. The student associations at the university help students out with off-campus accommodation and assist them with the process.

Homestay
Coming to a new country can be exciting but also intimidating. The Homestay program partners you with a family who will help you adjust to your new city by offering advice and information on getting around. You may choose to stay with the family for the rest of your study period or just until you find your own apartment. While in homestay, you will also have the advantage of being in an environment in which English is the primary language.

Guaranteed and Renewable Scholarships

Toronto Metropolitan University is pleased to recognize the academic achievements of the first-year class upon admission to the university with over $10 million designated for entrance scholarship support.

For Students Admitted for 2025-2026

International students (on a study visa) attending and completing studies at a Canadian secondary school, with final averages of 86% and higher, who meet the terms and conditions for scholarship, are guaranteed a renewable entrance scholarship according to the following values.

Terms and Conditions

To be eligible for consideration for TMU’s guaranteed and renewable scholarships, students must:

Be currently enrolled full-time in a Canadian secondary school (minimum of three Ontario Grade 12 U/M courses or Canadian provincial equivalent within the 2024-2025 regular school year).
Have been continuously enrolled full-time (no gaps in full-time attendance prior to the 2024-2025 regular school year).
Be enrolling in a post-secondary institution for the first time.
Have submitted a complete application for admission to an undergraduate program by September 1, 2025.
Be enrolling in a 4-year (5-year if co-op selected), full-time, undergraduate program.
All students that meet the above eligibility requirements will be considered, regardless of immigration status in Canada.

President's Entrance Scholarships

The President's Entrance Scholarship is awarded to secondary school graduates who demonstrate academic accomplishment, leadership qualities, original thought and creative ability.

Twelve (12) recipients | $40,000 (total value) | $10,000 (annual amount) (renewable)

Recipients are reserved (costs not included) a bed in residence. This is limited to Pitman Hall single bedroom with shared hallway washroom or the International Living/Learning single bedroom with private washroom. Please visit the Housing and Residence Life website for more information about living on campus.

A minimum 90% final admission average is required for consideration. Your average is calculated with your best six Grade 12 U/M courses, or your home country's equivalent.

This application will ask that you include the following:

An essay or project summary: this may be a piece of creative writing, or a summary of any creative project which you may have undertaken. It must reflect your capacity for original thought and creative ability (max 500 words).
Two (2) letters of reference:
1. academic reference letter that confirms your scholastic abilities. This reference may also speak to your leadership/creative endeavours.
2. reference letter should address your leadership/creative endeavours. It should not verify academic achievement.
Your leadership activities: you will indicate the leadership activities/positions that you have been involved in during your final two years in secondary school.

Note: Canadian Citizens, Permanent Residents of Canada, Protected Persons in Canada and International Students are eligible to apply for this award.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for consideration for the President’s Entrance Scholarship, applicants must:

Be currently enrolled in full-time secondary school studies (minimum of three Ontario Grade 12 U/M courses or Canadian provincial or international equivalent) within the 2024-2025 regular school year).
Achieve a final overall admission average of 90% or higher in six Grade 12 U/M courses (or Canadian provincial equivalent).
Have been continuously enrolled in full-time secondary school studies (no gaps in full-time attendance prior to the 2024-2025 regular school year).
Be enrolling in a post-secondary institution for the first time.
Be enrolling in a 4-year (5-year if co-op selected), full-time, undergraduate program.
Be Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada, protected persons/convention refugees or international students (with study permits).
Maintain a full-time course load (80% or more of a full course load) upon enrolment.
Applicants with a gap between their secondary and post-secondary studies are eligible to apply if their gap is no longer than one academic year.

International Student Leadership Award (ISLA) - (Fall)

ISLA, formerly known as the International Secondary School Merit Scholarship (ISSMS), is for undergraduate international students. Applicants must be starting their first year of a full-time four-year undergraduate degree at TMU. It's for students who do well academically, volunteer, join clubs and show leadership qualities.

The fall 2025 ISLA has a value of $5,000. The possible number of recipients is up to seven students. This award is entrance-only and is non-renewable.

Key points to remember:

You must be an international student starting your first year of a full-time four-year undergraduate degree.
You must have a final admission average of at least 85%, an A, or an equivalent.
You must write a personal statement for submission.
If a gap year was taken, it must be no longer than one academic year.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for consideration for the International Student Leadership Award (formerly known as the International Secondary School Merit Scholarship), applicants must:

Be international students with valid study permits by the start of the term (September 2025).
Be completing or have completed a recognized and approved secondary school curriculum, in Canada or abroad.
Maintain a full-time course load (80% or more of a full course load) upon enrolment.
Achieve a minimum 86% (or equivalent) final admission average.

International Student Leadership Award (ISLA) - Winter

ISLA - Winter, formerly known as the International Student Winter Merit Scholarship (ISWMS), is for international undergraduate students. It is subject to availability. Applicants must be starting their first year of a full-time four-year undergraduate degree at TMU in January 2026. It's for students who do well academically, volunteer, join clubs and show leadership qualities.

The ISLA - Winter 2026 has a value of $5,000. The possible number of recipients is up to seven students. This award is entrance-only and is non-renewable.

You must be an international student starting your first year of a full-time four-year undergraduate degree.
