A History of Forging Futures

Upon the ancestral land of the Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians, CSUN’s history begins in fall 1956 as the San Fernando Valley campus of the Los Angeles State College of Applied Arts and Sciences. Soon afterward, the California Legislature passed an assembly bill, which decreed that the campus would separate from its parent college on July 1, 1958—the founding date of the present university. The college was renamed San Fernando Valley State College.

By the dawn of the 1970s, San Fernando Valley State College had established a solid foundation and began honing an identity that would be recognized both regionally and nationally. On June 1, 1972, by action of the Legislature and the Board of Trustees of the California State University, the college was renamed California State University, Northridge, known affectionately and for evermore as CSUN.

Today, CSUN attracts students determined to create thriving careers, purposeful lives and to build a brighter and more equitable future for all.

California State University, Northridge is a vibrant, diverse university community of 38,310 students and more than 4,000 faculty and staff, sited on a 356-acre campus in the heart of Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley. Admission Requirements

The following requirements must be fulfilled to get admitted to California State University, Northridge

International students are considered on a case-by-case basis. There can be some additional requirements, depending on the program you are applying to.
Students are required to submit their original transcripts from their last attended academic institutions. If they are not in English, then submit the translated copies of the same along with the originals.
Financial support statement (original bank statement and sponsor letter).
Passport identification page with machine-readable code visible
Applicants must be 18 years old at the time of the beginning of the course.
You need to submit your English language proficiency test scores if you are coming from a non-English speaking country.

BUILD PODER

Trains undergraduate students to become biomedical researchers. Along with the National Research Mentoring Network and the Coordination and Evaluation Center, BUILD sites coordinate their activities and data to develop a national database of best practices.

Types of housing at California State University, Northridge.

The Suites at University Park

A single bedroom without a kitchen includes two-person bedrooms with a semi-private bath (one bath per two suites). Approximately 16 suites surround a hub of recreational and study lounges. All students in the suites must purchase a meal plan.

The Apartments at University Park

In a double with a kitchen, you share a bedroom with one other student in a two-bedroom apartment and share the common area in the apartment with two additional students occupying the second bedroom. A majority of students live in this type of housing.
In a double without a kitchen, you share a bedroom with one other student in a two-bedroom apartment and share the common area in the apartment with two additional students occupying the second bedroom. This apartment has no kitchen and the purchase of a meal plan is required. Please note this choice of the room takes precedence over any and all living learning communities and roommate preferences.

The Apartments at University Village

One- and two-bedroom apartments are for students with dependent children and/or a spouse or partner. Apartments are unfurnished. Kitchens are equipped with a refrigerator, range and garbage disposal. One-bedroom apartments include a dining bar. Two-bedroom units have a separate dining area. Bedrooms contain easily accessible, large closets, and there is a separate linen closet in each unit. Carpeting and window coverings will be provided.

Scholarships

Associated Students International Matador Scholarship:

Award amount: $3,000
Eligibility: Continuing international students (F-1 status) with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (undergraduate) or 3.5 (graduate)
Requirements: Academic ability, financial need, and promotion of international student involvement

Associated Students Dianne F. Harrison Award:

Award amount: $500
Eligibility: Continuing international students (F-1 status) with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (undergraduate) or 3.5 (graduate)
Requirements: Academic achievements, future educational and career goals, and student involvement

Dianne F. Harrison Leadership Award:

Award amount: $8,000
Eligibility: Continuing CSUN undergraduate students who entered as freshmen in Fall 2023 and completed at least 30 units
Requirements: Leadership involvement, academic achievements, and campus involvement

MSP Tanni Block Memorial LGBTQIA+ Scholarship:

Award amount: $1,250
Eligibility: Continuing undergraduate or graduate students (including international students) with a minimum GPA of 2.0
Requirements: Advocacy and involvement with LGBTQIA+ communities, leadership experience, and commitment to inclusivity

Alumni Higher Education Program:

Award amount: $1,000
Eligibility: CSUN alumni pursuing graduate education at CSUN with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (undergraduate) or 3.5 (graduate)
