Overview

Since its founding in 1889 as a teaching college, SUNY Plattsburgh has had a strong history of meeting regional and statewide needs for higher education. It is also a major driver of the economic and cultural well-being of the community.

SUNY Plattsburgh is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) and authorized by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York. The campus was reaccredited for ten years in June, 2012.

Admission Requirements

The following requirements must be fulfilled to get admitted to State University of New York at Plattsburgh

International students are considered on a case-by-case basis. There can be some additional requirements, depending on the program you are applying to.
Students are required to submit their original transcripts from their last attended academic institutions. If they are not in English, then submit the translated copies of the same along with the originals.
Should provide the certificate issued by the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) that compares educational credentials from other countries to educational standards in Canada.
Applicants must be 18 years old at the time of the beginning of the course.
You need to submit your English language proficiency test scores if you are coming from a non-English speaking country.

Please note: If you are not a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada, you must obtain a valid study permit before you come to Canada.

Living on Campus

Housing at SUNY Plattsburgh offers a safe, secure, well-maintained environment - and we’ve customized it to meet your needs.

We address your academic, personal and social needs and our residence halls provide opportunities for you to be a leader, interact with others and gain the support you need for success - and of course just hang out with your friends in our well-equipped lounges. You’ll have access to TVs, pool tables, ping-pong tables and lots of other entertainment! Living on campus is fun, exciting and can be challenging, but you’ll be part of an understanding and respectful community, too.

What’s more, we’ve customized our housing options and programs to meet your unique needs. Students are housed in double rooms and limited single rooms. Occasionally, we will need to place some first-year students in triples based on the spaces available, but we guarantee that the first 650 incoming students to apply for housing will not be placed in a triple.

Off-Campus

The SUNY Plattsburgh Campus Housing and Community Living is offering this website as a resource for our students. Campus housing at SUNY Plattsburgh does not deal with off-campus landlord disputes, issues that may arise in off-campus housing, review leases or offer suggestions for off-campus apartments. Those items are the responsibility of the student looking to move off campus. Students are obligated to go through the approval process to be considered for off-campus housing.

Though there are some advantages to moving off-campus, there is one big disadvantage - living off-campus is far more inconvenient. As a busy student who may be working, a club participant and taking classes, access and location can be the difference between being successful or unsuccessful. Students who live on-campus do better academically and socially than their off-campus peers in-part because of the conveniences it provides. Here are some conveniences that would be lost by moving off campus:

Classes and campus resources are just a walk away
Fewer worries about finding parking and having to drive in harsh weather conditions. (College rarely closes for big snow events.)
Access to laundry facilities 24 hours a day
Fast high speed WiFi
One bill pays for it all (heat, electricity, snow/trash removal, laundry, WiFi, etc.)
Safety (24-hour University Police, cameras, card access and community living staff)
Access to a community of your peers and college events

Scholarships

SUNY Plattsburgh offers partial scholarships to 100% of accepted international students. We do not offer full scholarships — our award packages cover between 20 – 40% of your total cost of attendance.

A first-year student is an applicant who has never earned college credit. All applicants who have earned college credits are considered transfer applicants.
