Overview

University of Limerick (UL), is located in the Wild Atlantic Gateway city of Limerick on the west coast of Ireland.

With over 18000 students, including more than 3,300 internationally mobile students each year, UL is an independent research-led university offering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; Education and Health Sciences, Science and Engineering and the Kemmy Business School.

With strong links to business and industry, UL excels at translational research, which aims to accelerate the practical application of academic research to benefit society.

Furthermore, UL’s Cooperative Education programme – one of the largest of its kind in the EU –places over 2,000 students in paid and semi-paid work experience in industry, business and the professions across the globe. 30% of those Coop placements are internationally located and these valuable work experiences make UL graduates more employable, which is why the UL graduate employment rate is 15% higher than the national average.

With the largest Erasmus+ programme in Ireland, UL is Ireland’s European university with international reach while a survey of Irish students recently voted UL as Ireland’s most popular university with a satisfaction rating of 85%.

Admission Requirements

The following requirements must be fulfilled to get admitted to the University of Limerick

International students are considered on case-by-case basis. There can be some additional requirements, depending on the program you are applying to.
Students are required to submit their original transcripts from their last attended academic institutions. If they are not in English, then submit the translated copies of the same along with the originals.
Applicants must be 18 years old at the time of the beginning of the course.
You need to submit your English language proficiency test scores if you are coming from a non-English speaking country.

Careers Service

The primary mission of the University of Limerick Careers Service is to support students and recent graduates in developing and implementing successful career plans, and to facilitate the recruitment process for students and employers.

University of Limerick has a strong employability focus and is committed to equipping students and graduates with skills and competencies they will need to build successful careers. During their four years at UL, students have access to an extensive range of employability-focused activities, including placement, careers development programmes, skills development and assessment sessions, and one-to-one consultations, to empower them to prepare for and manage their future careers.

Our career development programme equips students with career management skills for life, not just for their graduate role. This progressive programme is predicated on engaging with students from the first year of their degree. Specifically, it supports students in developing an understanding of their abilities, interests, preferences and motivations and impact on career-related decision making. Over 15,000 students and employers visit the careers service annually. As well as one-to-one careers consultations, the Careers Service offers targeted employability programmes (accredited and non-accredited) on topics such as professional development; building a career; skills and competences for the world of work; development of e-portfolios and CVs; and planning for postgraduate study. There is also an extensive graduate recruitment programme, advertising over 1,500 graduate vacancies annually and hosting the largest graduate recruitment fair nationally. At postgraduate level, UL provides a suite of accredited sector-specific professional development programmes, co-delivered with employers.

The Gradireland website is the result of collaboration between the Careers Services in the Irish Universities. It is a very comprehensive careers website for graduates throughout the country. One of it's most useful features is a searchable database of employers who recruit Irish graduates.

Accomodation

On-Campus Accommodation

UL has eight student villages on campus. Should you receive a room in one of those on campus villages you will have your own private study bedroom equipped with a good size study desk and free access to high speed internet via the UL wired network. All accommodation offers a private bedroom with shared living space and kitchen. Some of our apartment style residences offer en-suite. All villages are equipped with a full set of inventory. From pots, pans, pillows and duvets to a TV in the living room, the accommodation team, in Plassey Campus Centre, will have thought of all the essentials so that you do not have to go to additional expense.

Studentpad lets you search for student accommodation in areas close to the university. Join the University of Limerick Studentpad to get property alerts emailed directly to you whenever accommodation becomes available that matches what you are looking for. This includes a shared house, entire house, apartment or digs accommodation.

Please note, the university does not accept liability for accommodation advertised on the off campus database.

We are aware that there have been reports of accommodation scams targeting international students across Europe and it is important to take care when choosing off-campus accommodation from private providers.

Below are steps to proceed with when selecting off campus options:

Pick a property from a reputable source (some examples can be found on our FAQ page). Remember that accommodation advertised via social media may not be verifiable).
Request lots of pictures including the front of the property.
Google map the address and the picture of the front should match google maps.
Request a picture identification from landlord (you can mention that you are concerned about accommodation frauds).
Once the above is in order, request a live video call to view the property (the pictures should match the live call and, the identity of the landlord should match the i.d previously provided). The call should be recorded if possible so that the Gardai can follow up the identity of the suspect should the property turn out to be fraudulent.
When making payment, use trusted means like banks. If using Paypal do not click friends/family as a reason for payment. This can cause issues if looking to get refunded as you have declared the payment is to a trusted friend and family member when this is not the case.

Scholarships

This Scholarship awards EU fee status to Non-EU fee-paying University of Limerick (UL) students who wish to progress to a Master Degree course at UL. This scholarship is only available to Non-EU fee-paying UL students who successfully complete their four year Bachelor Degree programme at UL, prior to receiving a Master Degree offer at UL.
