Overview
Educating and training more than 20,500 people each year in a diverse array of programs, Okanagan College is the region’s largest higher education institution. Offerings range from bachelor degrees to diplomas, trades, vocational training, professional development, corporate training and adult basic education, giving students a step up in their careers.
Okanagan College is a dedicated learner-centred institution, serving the largest number of post-secondary school students in the B.C. Interior. Our employees have an unparalleled enthusiasm for bringing out the best from the more than 20,000 people who take courses or programs through our four regional campuses.
This devotion to quality learning means employees here can expect the same for themselves. At Okanagan College we see careers not as destinations, but pathways to something richer, something deeper. Professional development isn’t simply an idea here. It’s who we are.
Vernon Campus
With a dedicated learning community and relaxed atmosphere, the Vernon campus is the perfect place for students to kick-start their success. World-class instructors choose the Vernon campus as home because of their passion for teaching and the opportunity to get to know the students they teach.
Many professors are active in research, and have been published around the world – infusing classroom lectures with innovation and best practice that primes students for academic achievement. Residents benefit from the region’s array of four-season outdoor activities, from cycling on the Rail Trail to skiing and snowboarding at Silverstar Mountain only minutes away.
As a Vernon student, you will find intellectual challenges in a casual environment. Catch up with friends in the Kal View Café overlooking Kalamalka Lake, offering the best views of any post-secondary campus in Canada. Get some serious study time in under the branches of the fig tree inside the library. Meet new people with the Vernon Students’ Association, and connect with peers in Enactus Okanagan College to work on entrepreneurial projects that make a tangible difference in the community. Learn from Okanagan-Silyx knowledge keepers in the Kalamalka Indigenous Garden, where native plant species support Indigenous healing practices, medicines and traditional remedies. Get your hands dirty in Patchwork Farms, a community garden project that supports the food bank and other local organizations.
Educational amenities on campus provide a comfortable place to focus on studies. The bustling Student Success Centre is a hub of supportive learning, where free tutoring is available. The Aboriginal Services Centre connects students with key resources and supports. If design and creative writing are your thing, The Bunker is a must-see: students work in the functioning letterpress printshop as part of the Writing & Publishing program and Kalamalka Press publication. For a more relaxing experience, book an appointment in the Spa Training Centre, where esthetics students provide manicures, pedicures, facials and massages at unbeatable rates.

The Homestay program is an opportunity for cultural exchange between Canadians and International students, where students live with a host family for a period of time. Host families learn about other countries and cultures and help students adjust to living in Canada. Students have more opportunities to practice their English and learn about Canadian lifestyles, values, and customs.
Living with a homestay family is a good way to learn and practice English. The home may be a house, apartment, or a townhouse. Homes are normally located within 30 minutes or less of the campus by bus. Host families are chosen for their interest in other cultures and their willingness to help students adjust to the Canadian lifestyle. The host family may be a family with children, a family without children, or a single person.
