Admission Requirements
The following requirements must be fulfilled to get admitted to James Cook University:
- International students are considered on a case-by-case basis. There can be some additional requirements, depending on the program you are applying to.
- Students are required to submit their original transcripts from their last attended academic institutions. If they are not in English, then submit the translated copies of the same along with the originals.
- Financial support statement (original bank statement and sponsor letter).
- Passport identification page with machine-readable code visible
- Applicants must be 18 years old at the time of the beginning of the course.
- You need to submit your English language proficiency test scores if you are coming from a non-English speaking country.

Living On-Campus

Temporary JCU accommodation options
During holiday periods JCU Halls of Residence can provide short term (casual) accommodation to new students seeking off-campus accommodation, external students attending residential or block mode courses, and campus visitors and staff.
Short stay accommodation is available as on-campus and off-campus options. A short stay may suit you if you are seeking a place to live after the end of your lease or looking for a temporary accommodation option.

International Excellence Scholarship
The JCU International Excellence Scholarship provides a 25% tuition fee reduction throughout the entire duration of approved full degree study programs, provided recipients maintain a strong GPA each semester.
Scholarship eligibility is automatically assessed during the JCU admissions process. Eligible candidates will receive an offer for their program of study and the International Excellence Scholarship concurrently.

Some programs are ineligible for the International Excellence Scholarship. This includes, but is not limited to end on honours degrees, Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, Bachelor of Dental Surgery, Bachelor of Veterinary Science, and online and non-award programs.
Australia Awards students and SACM students and all other government scholarships/sponsorships covering full tuition fees, international students transferring from joint programs, and study abroad and exchange students are not eligible.
International Merit Stipend
The JCU International Merit Stipend provides fortnightly payments of A$400 to assist with expenses throughout the duration of study at JCU, providing a strong GPA is maintained.
Scholarship eligibility is automatically assessed during the admissions process. Eligible candidates will receive an offer for their program of study and the International Merit Stipend concurrently.

JCU Vice Chancellor's International Student Scholarship
The JCU Vice-Chancellor’s International Student Scholarships provide up to a 100% fee waiver per year for the minimum course duration.
Application for this scholarship is by invitation only, to international students enrolling in eligible programs, with a weighted average mark (WAM) of 85% or higher, and whose offer of a course is not conditional upon the student satisfying JCU's English entry requirements.
Value and payment of the scholarship
- The JCU Vice Chancellor’s International Student Scholarship (full fee waiver) provides up to a 100% fee waiver to for the minimum course duration.
- The JCU Vice Chancellor’s International Student Scholarship (partial fee waiver) provides a 50% partial fee waiver for the minimum course duration.
Eligibility Criteria - The JCU Vice Chancellor's International Student Scholarship will be open by invitation only to International Students who will be enrolling in eligible programs, and who have a weighted average mark (WAM) of 85% or higher.
Selection Criteria
- The JCU Vice Chancellor's International Student Scholarship is automatically assessed during the admissions process and eligible candidates will receive an invitation to apply for the Scholarship from the JCU International Admissions team.

Ongoing eligibility
The student must -
- Must hold a visa that permits study prior to commencing
- Must hold an offer for a full-time, internal program
- Must have completed any IELTS conditions
- Not applicable to Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science, Master of Clinical Psychology, Higher Degree by Research, Study Abroad or Exchange programs
- Scholarships cannot be deferred
- Scholarship recipients must maintain a 6.0 GPA (full fee waiver) or a 5.5 GPA (partial fee waiver)
- The scholarship cannot be combined with any other JCU grant, scholarship, or allowance
- Sponsored students are not eligible to apply
- The scholarship provides a fee reduction only – no cash payments or reimbursements are permitted
- Scholarships are allocated at the discretion of the Selection Committee
- Where the recipient fails to meet this requirement of ongoing eligibility, evidence of special circumstances contributing to the reduced GPA must be provided to the Scholarships Office for consideration
Conditions of the Scholarship
- If the recipient defers their study or takes a leave of absence without approval, the recipient will no longer be eligible for the Scholarship.
- If the recipient transfers to another course of study, continuation of the Scholarship, including tenure, will be subject to the approval of the relevant Dean.
- If the recipient fails to comply with any of the conditions of this Scholarship, the Dean of the relevant College may suspend or terminate the Scholarship or take such action as they deem necessary to enforce compliance of the condition by the recipient.
- A student may lodge a request for review of decision in accordance with the provisions of the JCU Student Review and Appeals Policy.
- JCU reserves the right to limit or adjust the number of scholarships awarded.
Administration of the Scholarship
The Scholarship shall be administered by the International Student Support Office, on behalf of the Vice Chancellor.
The funds of the Scholarship shall be held in an account in the name of the University and shall be administered by the Officer of the University charged with administering the Scholarship.
Where an award provides some benefit to the recipient from a body external to the University, or an obligation upon a body external to the University, the University, its servants, and agents, shall not be liable for that benefit or obligation.

Australia Awards Scholarships
Australia Awards Scholarships are long-term awards administered by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade that aim to contribute to the development needs of Australia's partner countries in line with bilateral and regional agreements.
The Scholarships provide opportunities for people from developing countries, particularly those countries located in the Indo-Pacific region, to undertake full time undergraduate or postgraduate study at participating Australian institutions. Since 1997, James Cook University has provided quality academic and personal support to over many hundreds of Australia Awards Scholarship students from more than 40 countries.
Australia Awards Scholarships are offered for the minimum period necessary for the individual to complete the academic program specified by the Australian higher education institution, including any preparatory training and generally cover tuition fees, air travel, and allowances to cover accommodation expenses, text books, study materials and basic living expenses.
