The South Dakota School of Mines & Technology is committed to excellence in science and engineering as well as in developing future leaders and problem-solvers. Founded in 1885 to provide instruction in the region’s primary industry, mining, today South Dakota Mines is one of the leading science and engineering universities in the region.

International students from 35 countries comprise up to 10% of the student population. South Dakota Mines’ Ivanhoe International Centre provides a broad range of services designed for international students to thrive and succeed.  The staff, researchers and faculty are made up of experts with diverse backgrounds and international experiences. Some have received numerous national and international recognitions, including the U.S. Presidential Faculty Fellow Award and the CASE Carnegie South Dakota Professor of the Year Award.

South Dakota School of Mines and Technology sits on a 118-acre campus in the stunning Black Hills.  This area is known for a milder climate perfect for outdoor activities like hiking, skiing, rock climbing and more. Specifically located in Rapid City, the campus is surrounded by art galleries, parks, museums and other attractions.
