Overview
The University of South Wales (USW) is one of Britain’s most exciting and ambitious universities. Innovative, thriving and sustainable, we work to build better futures for our students, our communities and our partners economically, socially and culturally.
USW places engagement, collaboration, and partnership working at the heart of everything we do, working alongside business, industry, and the social economy, to address identified needs and achieve the best outcomes for individual learners and organisations. We work in collaboration with industry, researching and innovating to tackle some of the biggest global challenges, from energy and health to security and sustainability.
USW is a vocationally-focused university, preparing students to support key industries now, and in the future. Employers work closely with USW to co-create curriculum that supports their future needs. This provides them with a skilled and relevant workforce that they can rely on with a large pipeline of graduates coming out of USW and our partner institutions each year. We are generating the workforce that employers tell us they want and need.
We are a multi-disciplinary university with a strong track record for our partnerships, widening access, and student success, with almost half of students at USW coming from areas within the bottom two quintiles of the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation (WIMD) - significantly above above average for higher education institutions in Wales and the UK.
With three campuses in Cardiff, Newport and Pontypridd, we are well placed for our staff and students to enjoy all that South Wales has to offer. We also provide a range of inclusive study pathways, supporting life-long learning and flexible options for our students. We work closely with our partner colleges, and have two wholly owned subsidiaries, the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and The College Merthyr Tydfil.

Most employers want to recruit graduates who have some relevant and recent knowledge of the working world for the industry you intend to enter after graduation.
- Student Enterprise :- Student Enterprise, part of USW Careers, supports students and graduates who are interested in developing their enterprise skills, freelancing, starting their own business or social enterprise and want to discuss, develop, test and launch their ideas. We offer one-to-one support and mentoring throughout the year, as well as a range of interactive events and workshops to give you the knowledge, confidence and networks to start working for yourself.
Accomodation
It is really important to make your accommodation arrangements for your first days in the United Kingdom before you leave your home country. University of South Wales offers a variety of accommodation options to suit your needs and we can help you make the best choice for your situation.
Living in Halls is a big part of the student experience – it’s much more than just a place to stay and we can make you feel right at home.
There are lots of accommodation options at USW, so you can choose what suits you best. We can also offer lots of advice on finding private rental properties if you would prefer not to live in Halls.
Living In Pontypridd
USW Pontypridd is framed by green hills and easy access to the awe-inspiring Brecon Beacons National Park. Here, you’ll have space to focus and horizons to explore.
Live and study in a friendly, community atmosphere that our students love. Not only is it convenient, but it's competitively priced too.
There are nearly 1,200 rooms of different sizes, and 20 self-contained studio flats. All our accommodation is self-catering, so each kitchen is well-equipped with microwaves, ovens, toasters and fridges.

Private Sector Renting
Private sector accommodation is off-campus accommodation that students can find through letting agencies.
Finding the perfect private-sector student accommodation doesn’t have to be a chore. But it’s really important that you don't rush into it - this is the number one rule! You are signing for up to 12 months and it can be costly if you decide to leave the contract early. One in eight students sign a contract to the first house they view.
USW is here to help students find homes to rent in the private sector. Find our approved private-sector student houses, flats and lodgings using our accommodation search tool.
We have checked that all these properties are properly licensed and accredited. We also have lots of information and advice on renting through letting agencies.
Rental Agencies
Rental agencies can be an easy way to search for a house but they usually hold administration fees and you are not guaranteed to find better accommodation just because you find it via an agency. Look for rental agencies that are accredited. When applying in Cardiff keep an eye on Cardiff Digs, which holds a list of student friendly landlords and letting agents for this area.
