Highlights
The Royal Agricultural University (RAU) has been ranked among the top ten universities in the UK, in a prestigious set of awards based on the views of students themselves.
- The RAU was placed 10th in the University of the Year category at the Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2019, rising from 16th in 2018. It also ranked sixth in the Job Prospects category.
- Whatuni collected over 41,000 student reviews from 160 universities and colleges, travelling more than 43,000 miles across the UK in six months.
- Students answered questions on topics such as how well their university helped them find employment and what they liked most and least about the way their course is taught.
- The winners were announced at a ceremony on 25 April at The Brewery in London, hosted by comedian Omid Djalili, with Swansea winning the University of the Year title.
- Simon Emmett, CEO of IDP Connect which owns Whatuni, said: “This year’s strong results are a clear indicator that despite the increasing cost associated with accessing a university education, students recognise and value the opportunities, support and teaching that they receive.”
- The success comes in the same year the RAU was made a Centre of Excellence by the Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs – only the sixth university to gain this accreditation.

Opportunities
The Royal Agricultural University Careers Service offers guidance and career advice to students and graduates.
The University offers fantastic career and employment opportunities, and reassuringly high graduate employability rates. This can be attributed, in part, to the strong industry links maintained by the RAU.
Our students benefit from lectures delivered by leading professionals and continued opportunities for work and study placements. This ensures that our students receive up-to-date knowledge whilst making valuable contacts with industry employers.
An extra advantage for our graduates is the support of our alumni. A powerful network of over 14,000 former students positioned across the globe, with members living in Africa, South America, Australia, and the United States, they are always keen to help graduates achieve career success.
A comprehensive careers advice service ensures that a consistently high number of RAU graduates go on to enjoy success in their specialist area of study, and make a significant contribution to a wide range of professions internationally. The careers service includes:
- Access to a wide range of resources about occupations, employment, and study opportunities
- One-to-one guidance from a professionally trained careers adviser
- Access to a wide range of job vacancies on the University’s job portal
- An email careers service offering advice on specific queries and a CV checking service
- Skills training sessions focusing on CV writing and interview skills
- Annual careers fairs open to all students
As you know, it is never too early to start thinking about where you want your postgraduate course to take you. So make sure you speak to your personal tutor at the beginning of the year to start building your career plan.
Accomodation
When you’re at University, your room is your space to call 'home' and where you live can play an important role in making new friends. There are a lot of benefits to living on-campus at the RAU. You’ll get to know the University, have your lectures on your doorstep and be right in the heart of the action.
on-campus
We have a mixture of catered and self-catered accommodation with the half board option as standard. The bedrooms are a mixture of standard rooms with shared bathroom facilities and en-suite rooms, and we offer quiet bedrooms for students who prefer a more tranquil environment. Have a look at the halls of residence guide for more details about our halls of residence and the accommodation each of them has to offer.
Your room will not just be a place to study and sleep, it will be your space to call home and the location will play a key part of meeting new people and making new friends.
Living on-campus is a great way to meet fellow students and to be where the action is, and comes with many benefits such as:
- With welfare and pastoral support from tutors, the student support services manager, accommodation officer, student team advice representatives (STARS), and university nurse. There is always someone on hand in the case of an emergency
- Security on-campus to keep you and your belongings safe

- You are close to all campus services. The Tithe Barn and bar, The Restaurant, cafe, library, sports facilities, launderette and university shop

- All RAU halls of residence are fully compliant and covered by the Universities UK Accommodation Code of Practice
Living off campus
- We want students who choose to live in Cirencester and surrounding areas to find appropriate accommodation, to integrate with the community and to stay safe.
- You are encouraged to come and meet the Student Accommodation team (situated in George Wing) to discuss your plans and see advice before you commit to renting a property off-campus. We can help you to find landlords that have a good track record and recommend where you can go to obtain legal advice.
