Overview

The University of Edinburgh is a public research university in Edinburgh, Scotland. Granted a royal charter by King James VI in 1582 and officially opened in 1583, it is one of Scotland's four ancient universities and the sixth-oldest university in continuous operation in the English-speaking world.The university played an important role in Edinburgh becoming a chief intellectual centre during the Scottish Enlightenment and contributed to the city being nicknamed the "Athens of the North".

Edinburgh receives over 60,000 undergraduate applications per year, making it the second-most popular university in the UK by volume of applications.It is the eighth-largest university in the UK by enrolment, with 35,375 students in 2019/20. Edinburgh had the seventh-highest average UCAS points amongst British universities for new entrants in 2019. The university continues to have links to the British royal family, having had Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh as its chancellor from 1953 to 2010 and Anne, Princess Royal since March 2011.

Admission Requirements

The following requirements must be fulfilled to get admitted to the The University of Edinburgh

International students are considered on a case-by-case basis. There can be some additional requirements, depending on the program you are applying to.
Students are required to submit their original transcripts from their last attended academic institutions. If they are not in English, then submit the translated copies of the same along with the originals.
Applicants must be 18 years old at the time of the beginning of the course.
You need to submit your English language proficiency test scores if you are coming from a non-English speaking country.

Accommodation for postgraduate students is all self catered and can be found across a range of convenient locations within easy reach of most key University buildings and Edinburgh’s city centre.

Accommodation options

Our accommodation is based across a number of sites, all located within a short walk or bus ride from Edinburgh’s centre and the main University areas.
You can choose from a variety of options in either traditional halls of residence or blocks of self-contained flats, the latter typically varying in size from four to six single study-bedrooms. There is a mix of en-suite rooms and those with shared bathroom facilities.
We offer accommodation for those with disabilities, and some accommodation for students with a partner or family is also available.
Rents for University accommodation typically include utility costs, internet services, personal contents insurance and some cleaning services.

P ostgraduate accommodation

Our properties are managed by professional wardens, supported by specially trained Resident Assistants who are usually students living on site, readily available to address any welfare or community issues.
They also organise and host a wide range of both social and academic activities.

Guarantees

We only guarantee accommodation for postgraduate students meeting certain criteria. However, all postgraduates are welcome to apply and may be made an offer if places are available.
