The mission of the BS in Healthcare Administration is to equip students with the tools they need to enable them to advance in their careers, and to enable them to work within healthcare organisations in a rapidly changing environment. Basic business courses (e.g., finance, human resources, accounting) will familiarize the students with basic business and fiscal operations, whether hospital or private practice-based. Healthcare specific courses will familiarize students with the breadth of operations within a healthcare setting including budgeting, quality improvement, public relations, legal, ethical and global considerations. Upon completion of the program students should be able to: demonstrate knowledge of the healthcare delivery systems along with the associated operational and financial aspects; explain the legal and regulatory environment in healthcare and implications for managers within the healthcare field; recognise important external and internal factors and trends impacting the industry and be prepared to assess current healthcare policies as well as recommend and adopt changes as needed; examine the dynamic nature of healthcare administration and demonstrate the problem solving and leadership skills to manage resources as needed within the healthcare environment.
