Master of Science in Genetics

Program Overview

Genetics – the study of genes and inheritance – is a fast-paced and exciting field underpinning all modern biology. Recent advances are revolutionising the ways genes and entire genomes are not only studied but also edited and modified. These developments are at the foundation of:

  • The health sciences
  • Biotechnology
  • Biodiversity conservation.

Studying Genetics, and the related field of Genomics, will prepare you for careers in all these areas.

On your course, you’ll cover a broad range of topics including the use of modern genetic methods to track down disease genes. You’ll learn from experts across the spectrum of genetics, including academics from:

  • Genome Damage and Stability Centre
  • Sussex Neuroscience
  • Evolution, Behaviour and Environment.

During your integrated Masters year, you'll develop advanced research skills by working with a research group with links to organisations such as Cancer Research UK and the Wellcome Trust. This experience will prepare you for a future in scientific research.
