Program Overview

Exploring culture, media, language and translation, you’ll develop the skills and knowledge to recognise and respect cultural differences, building better relationships with people of differing values, beliefs, preferences and behaviours.

You will learn and develop your competence in writing, speaking and comprehension in French, Spanish, German or Chinese. At the same time, you can also explore historical and cultural aspects relating to your chosen language and the communities that speak it, such as media, film, contemporary issues or politics.

Media gives you the chance to critically examine the technologies and techniques used to engage, inform and entertain audiences via television, social media, advertising, AI, radio, film, music videos and podcasting. Staff expertise includes advertising, media regulation, privacy, digital journalism, political communication, online journalism, professional writing, comics, visual culture, gender and race, virtual worlds, global media, social networks, and documentary filmmaking.

At Bangor, we enjoy strong links with local media production companies, including BBC Wales, S4C, BAFTA Cymru and independent TV companies, including Rondo Media, Cwmni Da, Darlun, Slam Media, and Aria Film Studios in Llangefni. This presents opportunities to gain practical experience, forging links with potential future employers in the media and creative industries, as well attending industry talks and workshops.

You can collaborate with students to work on different projects, such as short films, with students who are filmmakers, actors, composers, linguists and writers. Our high quality facilities include editing rooms and the latest equipment to make 4K digital films.
