Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Modern Languages and Film

Program Overview

You will learn and develop your competence in writing, speaking and comprehension in French, Spanish, German or Chinese. You can also explore historical and cultural aspects relating to your chosen language and the communities that speak it, such as film, contemporary issues or politics. You will be able to practise language skills with students who speak a wide variety of different languages, with opportunities to mentor pupils in local schools. The compulsory year abroad is fantastic preparation for today’s multilingual, multicultural world of work.

The study of film combines historical, critical, and creative work and practice. You will learn about film industry, history, and theory, as well as filmmaking techniques. You will also explore social media, television, radio, computer games, music videos, podcasting, and AI. You will be able to explore both factual and fiction filmmaking, getting hands on experience of the production process, including scriptwriting, directing, producing, art direction, cinematography, and postproduction.

You’ll join a friendly, diverse, and dynamic creative community on the BA (Hons) Modern Languages and Film. There are lots of opportunities to gain practical experience helping organising screenings, film festivals and special events. You can also collaborate on different projects, such as short films, with students who are film makers, actors, composers and writers.

Our high-quality production facilities include editing suites and the latest 4K digital filmmaking equipment. You’ll also have access to the professionally equipped public screening spaces in Pontio.
