Program Overview

You will learn and develop your competence in writing, speaking and comprehension in one of the languages we offer at Bangor – French, Spanish, German or Chinese. At the same time, you can also explore historical and cultural aspects relating to your chosen language and the communities that speak it, such as film, contemporary issues or politics.

In English Literature, you can study writers from all over the world, focus on the Classics or genres like Gothic, children’s fiction, or dystopian literature. Or you can adopt a thematic approach to study, such as monstrosity in Medieval Literature or globalisation in the 19th century.

The compulsory year abroad is fantastic preparation for today’s multilingual, multicultural world of work. You can add a second year abroad via the ‘International Experience’ option. Using your language skills in real-life situations not only increases your proficiency, but also boosts your confidence, independence and resilience.

Our staff have expertise in translation, film, literature, travel writing, performance, visual cultures, popular culture, socio-political change and transnational cultures. Enjoying a reputation for world-class literary research, our faculty includes some of the world’s foremost authorities on Arthurian Literature, early modern literature, the history of the book, and Welsh writing in English.

There are various options through which a student can get a post study work visa in the UK.
