Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in English Literature and Creative Writing

Program Overview

With a strong history of world-class research and teaching in English Literature, we offer a creative community. You’ll be mentored by published writers and poets. Our faculty includes published and award-winning authors, and some of the world’s foremost authorities on Arthurian Literature, early modern literature, the history of the book, and Welsh writing in English.

You’ll be encouraged to think about literature as both a reader and writer. Reading and writing many different forms, we'll look at traditional through to experimental forms of literatures.

You’ll take modules that explore novels, short fiction, non-fiction, flash or micro fictions, hybrid forms, poetry, or the challenges of writing with AI, creatively and professionally.

Studying this degree in English Literature and Creative Writing, will see you join a welcoming, supportive community. Our goal is to introduce you to new writers, as well as known texts, fostering a holistic understanding of the creative process and the intricate relationship between author and audience.

On campus, there are lots of opportunities to extend your creativity outside of the classroom. This includes student-led reading, study and discussion groups. You can also prepare and publish your submissions for pamphlets and online content produced by the Writers’ Guild Society and Seren (student newspaper).

Off campus, Bangor’s vibrant local arts and culture scene includes a local theatre, cinema and poetry groups who hold events across the city. Nearby Storiel art gallery and museum hosts exhibitions, creative workshops and social history collections from North Wales.
