Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Zoology with Marine Zoology (Optional Placement Year)

Program Overview

This BSc (Hons) Zoology with Marine Zoology gives you a thorough grounding in general zoology: the diversity of form, function, behaviour, evolution, ecology, development and morphology of all the major animal groups. As the degree progresses, you can focus on specialist topics, such as marine mammal science, marine and fish physiology, or marine conservation.

Our location, close to an exceptional range of terrestrial, marine, and freshwater habitats, is ideal for study sites for final-year research projects and field work. We have tropical and temperate marine and freshwater aquaria, and a dedicated onsite facilities for reptiles, rodents and insects. Treborth Botanic Garden has a pigeon loft and you can find Alpaca, sheep and bee hives on the Henfaes study farm.

You’ll be taught by staff whose expertise in marine zoology encompasses endocrinology, development, growth, energetics and adaptation of marine organisms, as well as their phylogeography and genetics.

A leading institute for research into fisheries science and the generation of tidal renewable energy, the University is home to the Marine Centre Wales and Environment Centre for Wales, a partnership with the UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (UKCEH).

We also host the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) Wales. Elsewhere in Bangor, you’ll find regional offices for Natural Resources Wales (NRW), D?r Cymru/Welsh Water, Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) and North Wales Wildlife Trust (NWWT). Strong links with these employers provide opportunities for work placements and volunteering, and some contribute to teaching.
