Bachelor of Dental Hygiene (Pre-Professional) (University Transfer)

Program Overview

You are able to begin your studies in dental hygiene at Medicine Hat College and then apply to transfer to the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry to complete your bachelor degree.
Please note that beginning in Fall 2017, the University of Alberta will admit the first cohort of students into the degree-only program. The diploma program will no longer be offered after Fall 2016. Applicants will need to apply to the Bachelor of Science (Dental Hygiene Specialization) degree program.
The minimum requirement for admission to the Dental Hygiene degree program is the satisfactory completion of 30 transferable credits (ten courses), of which a minimum of 24 credits (eight courses) must be taken during one Fall/Winter academic year (September to April inclusive). A minimum overall GPA of 2.7 is required to be considered for admission, however, does not guarantee acceptance to the Dental Hygiene degree program at the University of Alberta.
As part of the admission process, competitive applicants will be interviewed by an admissions team to determine if they possess the personal qualities necessary for the profession. The Dental Hygiene degree program at the University of Alberta is a quota program and all applicants are in open competition for any given year. Applications for admission are accepted between July 1 and November 1 prior to the year admission is sought. Please note that limited spaces are available for out-of-province applicants.
