Program Overview

As climate change and other environmental challenges accelerate, to save the planet we need to understand the planet. If you want to be part of the solution, study Environmental Geoscience in Liverpool. You will learn how the Earth works, and how to apply that knowledge to make a difference. You will develop key skills to help tackle the effects of climate change and to help ensure a sustainable environment for everybody.

The Environmental Geoscience programme provides students with the key knowledge and skills necessary to understand how the most important aspects of planet Earth work. You will study modules in geology, geophysics, physical geography, climate science and modelling. You will graduate with a broad knowledge of environmental science and a range of skills spanning problem solving using the scientific method, numeracy and coding, field work including data acquisition with all the latest geophysical and digital equipment, and report writing and communication skills, all designed to equip you for a career helping maintain a sustainable environment on our precious planet.

As part of your degree programme you may have the opportunity to study abroad. Studying abroad has huge personal and academic benefits, as well as giving you a head start in the graduate job market. Current opportunities for Ecology and Marine Biology, and Environmental Science students include a number of our worldwide exchange partnerships including Australia, Sweden and Canada. All Ecology and Marine Biology students undertake an independent study abroad visit. Earth Science students on the F601 and FF68 programmes can apply to spend a semester at partner universities in Australia and New Zealand. Most of our Earth Sciences field courses are based abroad and many students choose to carry out their independent project work abroad. Ocean Sciences students can currently apply to study abroad with partner universities in Canada, North America and Australia.
