Diploma of Design (3-Trimesters), Leading to Bachelor of the Built Environment in Interior Architecture

Program Overview

If you don’t yet meet the entry requirements for the UC course you’re aiming for, UC College’s diplomas –  also known as higher education diplomas – will provide you with an introduction to your chosen study area. They act as an alternative entry pathway for admission to UC undergraduate courses and prepare you for university study.

Diploma of Design
You have come to the right place. If you are creative and interested in design but concerned about your ATAR or English language skills, our Diploma of Design is the answer. You will open a direct pathway to a Bachelor of Design, or any of the faculty’s suite of design degrees, from which you can focus on any design field you wish.

Study our Diploma of Design at UC and you will:

  • Learn creative thinking skills
  • Develop an understanding of visual communication
  • Become familiar with design technology
  • Be introduced to 2D and 3D design
  • Investigate and develop design projects
  • Work in a design studio environment.
  • Develop the knowledge and skills needed to enter the design industry.

On successful completion of the Diploma of Design, you’ll receive up to 24 credit points (one year) of advanced standing into the second year of the following Bachelor of the Built Environment (Interior Architecture) at the University of Canberra.

Bachelor of the Built Environment (Interior Architecture)
The Bachelor of the Built Environment (Interior Architecture) provides an essential introduction to the field of interior spatial design. In line with the opportunities and constraints generated by a globalised and rapidly changing world, you’ll explore a mixture of urban environments and public spaces, and will analyse their context in modern society.

You’ll develop a robust series of creative and critical-thinking skills which will allow you to visualise the potential of interior environments, communicate your ideas using digital design software and, ultimately, shape the way humans experience and interact with interior spaces. Successful completion of the course will provide you with the skills and knowledge required to practice as a dynamic, agile and creative interior design professional.

Study a Bachelor of the Built Environment (Interior Architecture) at UC and you will:

  • Evaluate the role of interior architecture from a range of different environmental, cultural, historical and interdisciplinary contexts
  • Interrogate the traditional boundaries of interior architecture
  • Collaborate, develop, discuss and debate ideas in a professional industry framework
  • Use and evaluate a range of innovative industry-standard creative technologies in response to diverse and complex design problems.

Work Integrated Learning
A feature of this course includes engaging with leading design professionals and industry practitioners to gain valuable real-world interior architecture experience through the delivery of a series of ‘live’ projects. Internships at local, national and international interior architecture and interior design firms are also promoted.
