Becoming a science teacher allows you to encourage a love and curiosity for science in middle and high school students. You will help to foster experiential learning and exploration within students who wish to receive a basic grounding in general science. This in-demand profession is extremely important. You'll inspire students to learn, question, observe, analyze, explain, and draw conclusions about the world around them. In this four-year, 138 credit hour undergraduate BA program, you will learn to plan assessment-informed instruction for educational excellence and equity for all children including those from diverse racial, ethnic, linguistic, class and ability backgrounds.
Preparing science teachers is a highly collaborative process between the science education department in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences and the School of Education & Human Development at CU Denver as well as our highly experienced K-12 partner educators in the metro area.
In this teacher education program, you will learn from nationally and internationally recognized faculty members who are known for innovation and research in STEM education, social and emotional growth and building a diverse teacher workforce. Our department regularly works on prestigious National Science Foundation grants, involving students when possible. Through the science department, you will garner the essential content and education theory needed to be an effective science teacher. In our school district partnerships, you will "live the life of a teacher," becoming a vital member of the teaching staff as a teacher candidate.
