On behalf of the Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER), welcome to Florida A&M University.The HPER Department offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees that are designed to prepare students for career opportunities in a variety of health, fitness, sport and recreation settings. Our mission is to prepare graduates who can compete and interact effectively within the continually evolving fields of physical education, health, sport, and recreation.
HPER students participate in a wide variety of experiences that go beyond classroom work. You will be exposed to professors from a broad range of backgrounds and experiences. In addition, the HPER faculty members are dedicated educators who regularly engage in professional development activities on the national, state and local levels to stay abreast of information and contribute to the growth of the profession.

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
