Bachelor of Science Major in Occupational Health Science (STEM)

Program Overview

Occupational Health and Safety professionals are scientist and engineers committed to protecting the health and safety of people in the workplace and the community.

  • The goal of the OHS professional is to keep workers, their families, and the community healthy and safe. They play a vital part in ensuring that federal, state, and local laws and regulations are followed in the work environment.
  • OHS professionals identify, evaluate and work to eliminate health and safety hazards associated with harmful chemicals, excessive noise, poor indoor air quality, and so much more.
  • The OHS program at UNA is one of only four ABET accredited Bachelors-level programs in the United States. What makes our program even more unique is the emphasis placed on chemistry. Students who complete our program receive a minor in chemistry. This emphasis has been repeatedly commended by employers of our graduates due to the technical expertise acquired by students.
The OHS program at UNA is a long-time recipient of a NIOSH (National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health) Training Project Grant which provides Academic Scholarships to qualified OHS students.
