Bachelor of Arts in Sociology

Program Overview

Pursue a sociology bachelor’s degree and learn skills that are invaluable in life and in any career. The University of Toledo’s sociology program will equip you to better understand human relationships. This understanding is critical as our world evolves and grows more diverse.

UToledo sociology majors study the social lives of people, groups and societies. Students use scientific research methods and a critical lens to study behavior. We look at everything from short interactions between strangers on the street to global, social issues like human trafficking.

Highlights

  • Service learning and internships. UToledo undergraduates bring theory to life by working in community, social and government agencies. Students also can study the effects of urban poverty in the Dominican Republic in an international field school launched by UToledo’s Department of Sociology and Anthropology in summer 2017.
  • Academic and personal growth.
    • Present research at local and national conferences.
    • Create independent studies with faculty.
    • Study abroad.
    • Work with faculty on their research, and learn skills useful for graduate school and employment.
  • Award-winning faculty. UToledo sociology professors care about student success. They advocate for their students and assist with research ideas, internship opportunities, career advice and graduate school applications.
