Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Engineering Technology (STEM)

Program Overview

The accredited computer science and engineering technology program at The University of Toledo combines two highly-marketable careers: engineering and computer science. Computer science is one of the fastest-growing occupations in the U.S.

UToledo’s unique curriculum focuses on hands-on education with lots of lab work. Students also get practical work experiences through optional co-ops.

CSET majors learn to plan, construct, troubleshoot and manage hardware and software in sophisticated data networks. They also learn website design and development.

Highlights

  • Optional co-ops. UToledo’s co-op program sets us apart from other universities. Engineering students get a minimum of three semesters of paid experience in the industry.
  • Hands-on learning. There’s a bit of theory, but our courses focus mainly on doing. UToledo students learn how to code and write programs, build databases and more. In capstone classes, students design and develop applications that can be used in real-life scenarios.
  • Cutting-edge labs. You'll have access to a variety of labs, including a Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) lab for network design and troubleshooting.
  • Accredited program. UToledo’s College of Engineering is one of the best in the nation. Our CSET bachelor’s degree program is accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission and Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET.
  • Faculty active in research. CSET faculty publish in peer-reviewed journals. They conduct research in:
    • Information security
    • Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs)
    • Virtual machine and techniques
    • Parallel algorithms and processor designs
    • Image processing
    • Bioinformatics
