The Master of Public Health (MPH) is the most wellknown Public Health degree. It is considered a “terminal” or “professional” degree, as it fully prepares individuals for lifelong careers in public health practice without the need for additional education.
Health Behavior - Concentration
The MPH with a concentration in Health Behavior addresses the behavioral, social, and cultural factors related to individual and population health and health disparities. Our program emphasizes the importance of community-based participatory research and the application of findings through a variety of behavioral and social science health promotion strategies. Classes are designed to be engaging, interactive, and relevant to current health behavior issues.

Undergraduate Scholarships: Regional scholarship • Limited availability on a first-come, first-served basis. • Applicable to International Year One or Undergraduate Transfer Program enrollments. • A personal statement or scholarship interview may be required for some regions. Progression scholarship Achieve a minimum GPA of 3.75+ during International Year One or University Transfer Program to qualify for $3,000 per year. • Maintain consecutive enrollment at UAB as a full-time degreeseeking student in an approved undergraduate program. • Renewable as long as student remains in good academic standing, maintaining a GPA of 3.75+. International scholarship • No scholarship application required, qualified applicants automatically considered; must begin program within 12 months of secondary school graduation. • Must apply and be accepted by The University of Alabama at Birmingham no later than May 1 (August intake), and November 1 (January intake). • Minimum GPA of 3.0+ upon completion of a high school or secondary school outside of the USA. • Applicable to full-time first-year Direct-Entry undergraduate international enrollments. • Study gap from high school graduation must be within 2 years. • Must currently reside outside of the USA, be non-immigrant and non-resident status, and require a F-1 visa. • Must not have enrolled in post-secondary work. Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):
