Career Opportunities

With this qualification graduates may find employment opportunities in the public and private health sectors through government health department clinics and private practice as a Dental Technician/Dental Prosthetist or Clinical Dental Technician.

Dental Technologists (or Dental Technicians as they are often referred to) may find employment with Dental Technicians, Dentists, Dental Prosthetists, Prosthodontists, Orthodontists, Periodontists, and Oral Surgeons in the public or private health sectors working to referring dental practitioners and specialist's prescriptions. Graduates will be able to design and construct oral devices according to international standards that meet individual patient's needs. Dental Technicians work with a wide range of materials and techniques such as: gold, porcelain, plastic and lost wax technique and CAD-CAM (Computer Aided Design/Manufacturing). They may see patients to record the colour, shape and characteristics of existing teeth.

With this qualification, graduates can apply technical skills, scientific knowledge, artistic skills and compassionate nature across three distinct specialist areas - Prosthodontic, Conservative and Orthodontic - or you may eventually choose self-employment. Graduates will be well equipped to sit for a 'skills exam' requested by employers.

Prosthodontic Technician and Clinician (Removable Prosthodontics)
Dental Prosthetists work directly with patients to provide removable partial dentures and will also design and fabricate full and partial dentures in plastic or alloy. Graduates will be well equipped for the variety of procedures and techniques to replace missing teeth and will work alongside dentists and prosthodontists.
A student graduating as a dental technologist and dental prosthetist can potentially have two income streams. One providing dental technology services to dentists or specialists and working directly with a patient as a dental prosthetist providing patient care (including referral) and treatment to replace missing teeth.

Self-employment
Graduates will gain an understanding of the operational issues involved in establishing a new business. Graduates may own and operate a dental laboratory or clinic. Graduates can progress onto employment in management roles such as senior or chief technician or prosthetists; quality control technicians/prosthetist; teaching or dental sales.

Research opportunities
Graduates can apply to progress their research skills through an Honours, Masters or PhD qualification which may lead to various roles in academia or in large-scale organisations (corporations/companies, government departments, non-profit/charity organisation).

International opportunities
Graduates will be equipped to apply for dental technologist/technician registration and dental prosthetist (clinical dental technician) in other countries. They will have gained the necessary knowledge and skills to adapt to the examination process required for registration.

Scholarships

International Early Acceptance Award

We are delighted to be offering 10% credit on your first trimester's tuition fees if you are commencing in Trimester 2, 2025, and accept your offer and make payment within 14 days. This award applies to undergraduate and postgraduate coursework programs (exclusions apply).

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply you must:

• Be a citizen of a country other than Australia or New Zealand.
• Be a full-time student starting in Trimester 2, 2025.
• Accept your offer to study at Griffith and make payment within 14 days of receiving your Letter of Offer. The acceptance date for this award will be outlined in your Letter of Offer.
• Be studying an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program. See the Terms and Conditions below for excluded programs and cohorts.

Terms and Conditions

• Griffith University academic and English language entry requirements apply, including results of previous study and English language proficiency.
• The award covers 10% of undergraduate or postgraduate coursework tuition fees for the first trimester of study only, for students commencing in Trimester 2, 2025.
• Students must accept their Letter of Offer and pay their total deposit fee by the award acceptance date specified in official University communication. This award will be granted as a non-refundable credit on the student account. Should a student withdraw or cancel for any reason, the award amount is non-refundable.
• Students who defer commencement to an intake after Trimester 2, 2025 are not eligible to receive the award.
• If eligible, the Early Acceptance Award will apply in addition to other Griffith International student scholarships.
• Students must be International Fee Paying to qualify for the award.
• Excludes students enrolling in Higher Degree Research, non-award, Study Abroad Program, Masters Qualifying Program, Dental (1577, 1613, 1638, 1574, 1580, 2126, 5702, 5703, 5699), Psychology (5070, 5747, 5753), Medical (1280, 5099), Nursing and Midwifery (1162, 1354), Master of Speech Pathology (5567), Bachelor of Clinical Exercise Physiology (1604),  Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours) (1662), Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) (1590), English language programs at the Griffith English Language Institute, programs delivered wholly online, programs only offered part time, programs delivered onshore or offshore in collaboration with a partner organisation.
• Students must not be Australia Award/Australian Government scholarship recipients, foreign government scholarship recipients or on a pathway package with Griffith University.

The Gold Coast Student Grants program offers a $1,000 grant to help new international students settle into their new life on the Gold Coast. This grant can be used for textbooks, accommodation, or everyday expenses, easing the financial pressure of starting their journey in Australia.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Hold a valid student visa (subclass 500).
• Enroll at an Experience Gold Coast Education Member Institution for at least 24 academic weeks (including packaged offers/multiple courses).
• Be a new student with a course commencement date between 1 May–30 November 2025.
• Submit all required documents as per the Gold Coast New Student Grants’ conditions.

Important Dates: Applications Open: 11 February – 30 June 2025 (subject to early closure if the quota is met).
*Please note that this grant is only available to the first 250 eligible international students. Domestic students, international students already enrolled at an Australian institution, and those currently residing in Australia are not eligible.

Students who have completed their studies in Australia can apply for a Post Study Work Permit or a Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485) to continue working in Australia post the completion of their study programs. As an international student, one can apply for the visa but not later than six months after completing your course. But to be eligible, you must meet the Australian Study Requirements, which include a minimum of 16 months of stay in Australia and a completing 92 weeks of a course registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS).

The professions which are the highest in demand in Australia are Cabin Crew members, Chefs, Account Managers, Teachers, Architects, Interior Designers, Engineers, and Marketers.
