Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in History and Politics

Program Overview

Our undergraduate BA History and Politics degree at the University of Birmingham will enable you to investigate unfamiliar territory and to question some of the myths, preconceptions and prejudices that surround History and Politics.

Studying History and Politics in tandem will increase your understanding of both governments and whole societies. You will be able to follow your interests in particular times and places and develop your understanding of the disciplines of history and political science.

Our degree gives you the opportunity to explore a wide range of options covering the medieval, early modern and modern periods, over a vast geographical range. You can study political, social, cultural and religious history as well as histories of race and gender. There are frequently opportunities to take modules in other departments such as in Art History, African history, and Anthropology.

During your studies you will also have access to unparalleled resources such as the on-campus Cadbury Research Library. Its collections include a wide range of nationally- and internationally-important archives as well as over 250,000 rare books, some dating back to the 15th century.

The Department of Political Science and International Studies (POLSIS) has a broad expertise covering all areas of Political Science allowing you to learn from true specialists, with long-established strengths in the fields of political theory, European politics, international relations theory, security studies, diplomatic studies, political sociology, political economy, environmental politics, Pacific Asian politics and British politics.
