Program Overview

Develop the knowledge and skills required to lead individuals and communities towards healthier lifestyles through physical activity and sport.

  • Explore the scientific, sociological, managerial and political theory and concepts that underpin physical activity, sport and health.
  • Engage with critical evaluation and participation in innovative research in physical activity, sport and health contexts.
  • Apply knowledge, skills and understanding of physical activity, sport and health to real-world settings.
  • Reflect on your personal development of professional practice.
  • You may also be able to work or study abroad with the possibility of funding through the Erasmus+ programme (until 2023) or the Turing Scheme.  

Enhance your understanding of exercise physiology, psychology, nutrition and research methods through theoretical study and practical exercise. Learn to communicate information and ideas clearly in different formats appropriate to a variety of audiences.

Staff have been published on topics such as the psychology of motivation in exercise and health, physical activity participation in older adults, exercise and appetite, effects of exercise on metabolism in diabetes, perceptions and participation in physical activity during pregnancy. You are given the opportunity to conduct your own enquiries into a range of themes around physical activity.
