This course is designed for those who don't have the qualifications needed for the BSc/MSci Physics courses, but who demonstrate scientific potential through good passes in GCSE Mathematics and Science or workplace experience. It is a BSc degree with an integrated foundation year that provides excellent preparation in the physics, mathematics, practical and study skills that students need to succeed on their degree.
On successful completion of the preliminary year you will be ready to join the BSc Physics degree.
This degree is suitable for applicants from a range of backgrounds, including mature students who have not undertaken any formal study in recent years or students who are studying Access to Higher Education or similar courses that do not provide sufficient mathematics and physics material for entry to the standard BSc/MSci Physics degrees.
The preliminary year is not suitable for applicants who are currently taking A-levels (or equivalents) in mathematics and physics or have recently taken A-levels (or equivalents) in mathematics and physics but not achieved the grades required for entry to the standard BSc/MSci Physics degrees.
You will join a friendly department with a very active, award-winning student society. We provide physics-specific employability sessions and encourage you to develop a broad range of transferable skills. Our physics graduates have an excellent record of employment, a testament to the value that employers place on these skills.
