Program Overview

Sport has become a growing global industry, where the performance of the business behind the scenes is just as important as the performance on the pitch, court or course. Today, there’s huge investment in venues for sport at every level. Not just physical arenas, but vehicles for maximising revenue from sporting events, fan engagement, marketing and sponsorship sales. Health and fitness initiatives are launched regularly, with public and private sector backing. The sports branding and clothing industry continues to generate millions of pounds every year. It all adds up to a world full of opportunity for a rewarding future in the sports industry.  

Our BSc (Hons) Sports Marketing Management course explores what makes sports marketing so special. You’ll develop key skills in areas like brand management, digital marketing and commercial sponsorship.  

The course prepares you for real life in the industry by developing practical expertise, knowledge and experience that great careers are built on. You’ll complete practical projects like developing a sponsorship proposal, creating a digital marketing campaign or putting together a business plan for a new sports enterprise.  

To add even more to your CV, you can spend one year on placement with an employer, or go abroad to study at one of our partner universities.

Manchester: A Global City  

Manchester is a vibrant hub for sports and is home to some of the world’s most iconic sports teams and companies. The city boasts two Premier League football teams, Manchester United and Manchester City, both with fanbases that span the world.  

Beyond football, Manchester is also known for its history in rugby, with teams like Sale Sharks, and its success in cricket with Lancashire Country Cricket Club.  

The city’s sporting landscape extends to athletics, with the national centres in cycling, squash, basketball, taekwondo, speedway and water polo.  

Additionally, Manchester is a buzzing hub for national and global sports brands such as Umbro and Adidas.

Sport is part of Manchester’s DNA. It’s a big feature of the city’s history, character and economy and it’s a big part of Manchester Met too. As a result, we’ve worked with experts in the industry to create a sports marketing management degree that is as useful as possible for your future career.  

Throughout your studies, you’ll have a range of opportunities to make the most of our location. From gaining experience on placements, to visiting globally renowned teams and venues. With so many of our graduates going on to roles with the likes of Manchester City FC, British Athletics, Adidas and Nike, this is a course that offers a real opportunity to get you to work.  

We provide plenty of opportunities for you to learn from experts in the industry. We organise guest lectures and help you volunteer at sports organisations and events. We have links with a number of sporting companies, across the city, including Manchester City Football Group, GB Taekwondo and British Cycling.
