Program Overview

The global trend in the manipulation of nutrient intake to enhance performance and the health of exercising individuals has grown exponentially. Matching the physiological demands with relevant dietary needs is a fast-growing area of sport nutrition. All of these factors are creating a demand for dynamic, innovative nutrition graduates.

We’ve designed our sport and exercise nutrition course to address the increasing awareness of the impact of nutrition on sport and exercise performance and the growing need for employment in the area.

You’ll examine the complex relationships between diet, health, physical wellbeing and performance whilst also gaining experience in the skills required to work in the field of sport and exercise, such as providing specialist advice on healthy eating, conducting dietary surveys and being an advocate of change.

Our Sport and Exercise Nutrition BSc (Hons) degree also provides the option of spending an extra year working in a partner organisation on placement.

The foundation year route is only available to home/EU students and not currently open to applications from international students.

Both of our nutrition courses are accredited by the Association for Nutrition. When you graduate, from the BSc (Hons) course, you’ll have the right to apply for direct entry at Associate level to the UK Voluntary Register of Nutritionists.

Our nutrition courses help to prepare you for a variety of opportunities within the field of food and nutrition, from public health and product development to working with sports teams.

Some of our current students have gained work experience with Manchester City FC and Manchester City Council. From working with an elite athlete or a community sports team to a public health initiative on physical activity, you could work in a variety of sport and exercise settings as a nutritionist. Previous students from our department have gone into roles such as a health trainer, performance nutritionist or sports dietitian.

There are various options through which a student can get a post study work visa in the UK.
Tier 1 Graduate Entrepreneur Visa for the graduates with a genuine and credible business idea.
