Bachelor of Information Technology in Optical Systems and Sensors (with Algonquin College) (Co-op)

Program Overview

Optical Systems and Sensors (OSS) provides you with the advanced skills and knowledge to thrive and succeed in a dynamic world of rapidly changing technologies. Gain a strong foundation in IT, optical transport networks, and smart sensor systems combined with the leading-edge photonics technology. Graduates receive both a Bachelor of Information Technology from Carleton University and an Advanced Diploma in Photonics and Laser Technology from Algonquin College.
This program combines computer programming, automation, signal and image processing courses with foundational courses in physics, math, project management and business. While also acquiring a strong IT background, students will learn about optical communication and next generation networks, lasers, and advanced optical component design through specialized hands-on experience in our state-of-the-art laboratories.
Take courses in remote sensing for autonomous vehicles and drones, medical imaging and biosensors, smart sensors in agriculture and computer vision. OSS has very strong ties with industry to ensure that the program remains up to date with current trends through an industrial advisory board (in the IT, Laser, Optics,  Photonics fields and computer vision).

Work Experience
A Co-op option is available. Co-op is the opportunity to get a head start on a career. Co-op work terms allow for the development of key employability skills, exploration of career options and graduation with tangible, workplace experience.
