Master of Law in Law and Legal Practice

Program Overview

The MLaw in Law and Legal Practice is a four-year full-time integrated master’s course. It incorporates Leeds Law School’s Legal Practice Course (LPC) and the LLB (Hons) qualifying law degree.

As part of this course, you’ll:

  • Study the seven legal foundations of knowledge
  • Cover a variety of topics such as domestic law, with some study of the impact of regional EU law and human rights law on domestic legislation and legal development
  • Choose which aspects of national and international law to specialise in during your third year
  • Build on the legal knowledge gained in your first three years by studying principal practice areas such as Business Law and Practice, Civil and Criminal Litigation, and Property Law and Practice in your fourth year
  • Study core subjects in your final year such as Professional Conduct and Regulation, Wills and Administration of Estates, and Solicitors Accounts
  • Develop knowledge of and understanding of how to practise legal skills including Advocacy, Drafting, Interviewing and Advising, Practical Legal Research, and Writing

This course incorporates the legal foundations of knowledge, as recognised by the legal profession’s regulators, as well as meeting the SRA’s requirements for the Legal Practice Course (LPC), which remains one route to qualification as a solicitor.
