This course provides a secure grounding in the principles, doctrines, and application of law and the intellectual traditions and perspectives that underpin business as a distinctive discipline. You will learn the key principles and doctrines underlying English, European and International law and develop an understanding of its social, political, historical, and comparative contexts.
Your study of law will also help you to develop a well-informed approach to problem solving, something which is important to a successful career in law or business. Your business modules, taught in Keele Business School, will provide you with a firm foundation from which to engage with business in a global context. You will develop a keen appreciation of the relationship between law and business at a theoretical level, and how law influences workplace and business practices, to help equip you for a career in law or business.
Your first year will provide you with a strong grounding in the structure of the English legal system through the study of public law, the law of contracts, tort law and property law. You will also study the context of management and an introduction to international business. During this year, you will be introduced to the skills specifically required for studying law, including researching legislation and case-law, reading judgments and legal writing.
In your second year, you will study remedies, the law of real property, criminal law and EU law, alongside four optional modules, two from the Business School and two from Law.
In your final year, you will study the law of trusts and complete a contemporary case law critique. You will also take four further law modules and two business modules, selected by you from the options available, to help tailor your final year to your interests or career aspirations.
