The master of arts in Christian education at Concordia University Chicago prepares men and women who desire to serve in congregational settings as a parish educator or an educator trained to lead Christian education programs for children, youth and adults.
Candidates are trained to be Christian educators who exhibit high standards of professional competence and ethical practice. Graduate students receive a high-quality educational program that focuses on skills, dispositions, and Biblical and theological knowledge to be successful in serving congregations in the role as educator. The program offers two tracks:
Track 1: For students seeking additional training as Christian educators beyond the bachelor of arts in Christian education. Most typically these students will be already rostered as DCEs in the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod.
Track 2: For those seeking certification as Directors of Christian Education in the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod as rostered commissioned ministers of the Church. Track 2 combines the master’s degree curriculum and the LCMS-DCE certification requirements.
