The University of West Florida Athletic Training Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) and currently offers a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. Recently, CAATE, with the full support of the Board of Certification and the NATA Research & Education Foundation, agreed to establish the professional degree in athletic training at the master's level.
Thus, the UWF Athletic Training Program is preparing to transition from a BS in Athletic Training to a MS in Athletic Training and is no longer accepting freshman applicants to the university to pursue an undergraduate degree in Athletic Training. However there is a plan in place for students currently enrolled in the Athletic Training undergraduate program who meet the academic criteria for the BS in Athletic Training degree to complete their degree before the university transitions to the MS in Athletic Training program.
This program, specifically designed to meet national and state licensure requirements, includes a three-year comprehensive plan of study starting in the sophomore year that combines classroom and clinical education components. Students graduating from this program may be eligible to sit for the Board of Certification (BOC) examination and athletic training state licensure/certification in Florida (as well as other states). BOC exam eligibility requirements are defined in the ATP Retention and Program Progression Guidelines. Contact the Program Director for this information.
