Program Overview

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology offers programs leading to the degrees of Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in Medical Sciences-Obstetrics and Gynecology either as part of a post-MD residency training program or as an independent degree program for prospective students proceeding from an undergraduate degree. Research may be carried out in any of the department laboratories or clinical facilities in a variety of disciplines related to reproductive sciences. Current research activities are focused in the areas of: perinatal medicine. Areas of research include:

  • Control of parturition/Preterm labour
  • Hypertension/Preeclampsia
  • Immunology of Pregnancy
  • Placental development and function
  • Role of bioactive lipids in pregnancy
  • Prostaglandins in the control of birth in women
  • Sex steroids receptors
  • Vascular function
  • Viral Infection and Pregnancy
