Certificate of General Arts and Science - English for Academic Purposes

Program Overview

George Brown College’s English for Academic Purposes (EAP) is a post-secondary program that helps international students learn English. Students come from around the world to learn in our supportive environment. Students learn listening, speaking, reading and writing, vocabulary and grammar in integrated classes at each level. Certified teachers use a wide range of interactive teaching resources in state-of-the-art classrooms. A unique feature of this program is that new immigrants and international students participate together in classes and student life activities.

At the start of Level 7 or Level 8, students may choose*:

  • to continue in the regular English for Academic Purposes program, or
  • to pursue Level 7 or Level 8 English for Business Studies, or
  • to pursue Level 7 or Level 8 English for Hospitality Studies

*Space is limited and students are not guaranteed thier first choice of streams.

In Levels 7 and 8, students can also choose to enroll in a General Education or Communication (L8 only) credit course. These courses give students the opportunity to practice English (four skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking) outside the English as a Second Language (ESL) classroom, develop critical thinking abilities, and learn what it is like to be in a college program course.

CERTIFICATION:-
An Ontario College Certificate is awarded upon successful completion of Level 8.

Students who complete Level 8 are exempt from the English admissions test required for most post-secondary programs at George Brown College and many other Ontario colleges. Students who complete Level 9 are deemed to have met the English admission requirements for some George Brown College degree programs and graduate certificate programs with co-op or field education placements.

Please note:- Mandatory admission testing, which includes English, is required for some programs. Check program requirements.
