Bachelor of Music / Bachelor of Education - Secondary Education (Music)

Program Overview

The Department of Music and the Faculty of Education offer a five-year integrated program of 162 units, leading to the degrees of Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Education (Elementary). The first three years (99 units) are taken in the Faculty of Arts and the last two years (63 units) are taken in the Faculty of Education.

Bachelor of Music

The most intensive of all our programs, admission to the Bachelor of Music (B.Mus.) program is dependent on a successful performance audition and the completion of a music rudiments placement test.

All Bachelor of Music students take a common first year that includes applied music lessons, courses in music theory, music history, aural skills, and large ensemble performance.

Bachelor of Education

The Bachelor of Education Secondary program is a specialized program in which students will select a teachable major and minor. The program prepares students to instruct in these two subject areas in Grades 7-12. It consists of 120 units of course weight (*120) overall and a minimum of 14 weeks of student teaching.
