Doctor of Pharmacy (for practicing pharmacists)

Program Overview

Program Description:

  • This program is intended for graduates of a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree. If you do not hold that degree, please see Doctor of Pharmacy (entry-to-practice).
  • The PharmD for Practicing Pharmacists program combines coursework and practical experience to help position you to practice to a full scope as part of an interdisciplinary team in a variety of settings, including hospitals, primary care and family care clinics, and community practice. You’ll also be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and leadership qualities to work in various healthcare settings, organizations, or government agencies.
  • This program can be completed either full-time or part-time (distance).

Why study Pharmacy at the University of Alberta?

  • The Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences offers one of the leading entry-to-practice pharmacy programs in Canada, drawing from a tradition of excellence in pharmacy education, research, and practice dating back to 1914. We are the only school of pharmacy in Alberta, which enables us to provide diverse experiential placement opportunities across the province. We are also the only school in Canada to offer a dual Pharmacy/MBA degree, and one of the few schools to offer a post-professional PharmD program for practicing pharmacists who wish to complete advanced education in patient care.
