Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Informatics and Data Science (STEM)

Program Overview

The Bachelor of Science program in biomedical informatics and data science teaches students how to use health care data to make educated predictions about the spread of disease and infection in order to pinpoint the origin of contamination. Additionally, students learn methods for automatic detection of health events, assessment of a person's health and forecasting adverse health outcomes.

Students develop critical skills in:

  • data acquisition and analysis: gathering, processing and gaining insight from biomedical data
  • data management: understanding how to organize and maintain vast amounts of health information
  • knowledge representation: transforming complex data into understandable and usable formats
  • modeling and machine learning: using advanced algorithms to predict health trends and inform clinical decisions

Students also have the opportunity to conduct next-generation research with faculty experts in areas such as bioinformatics, artificial intelligence, clinical informatics, imaging informatics and population health, preparing them to address practical health challenges.
