Bachelor of Education

Program Overview

Educators don’t just teach subject matter, they guide and support students on pathways of learning. As an educator, your role changes from class to class, semester to semester, year after year. Education is for independent and passionate individuals who envision lasting positive changes in their local communities and across the world.

Students must complete a Bachelor’s degree before applying to the B.Ed. degree. Our 11-month program includes 60 credit hours of coursework and in-school teaching experience.

Why Education at UNB?
UNB’s Faculty of Education offers specialized areas of study in Aboriginal education, second language education, art, health, literacy/drama, mathematics, physical education, science, social studies, early childhood education, exceptional learners, and guidance and counselling.

With UNB’s hands-on practicum approach, you’ll receive the opportunity to turn classroom theory into practice right away. If travel is of interest to you, choose to complete your advanced practicum in an international setting.

Hands-on learning
Because classroom experience is crucial to becoming an effective teacher, we provide students with a fully integrated practicum that includes three blocks:

  • Initial (takes place during the first two weeks of school)
  • Intermediate (occurs over three weeks in November/December)
  • Advanced (seven weeks during the spring)
  • Every Monday during the fall and winter terms

Also, for those students studying Early Childhood Education, we provide practical experience in our on-site Children’s Centre, where students can observe and interact with the children on an ongoing basis while they complete the program.

Skills you will acquire:

  • Critical Thinking
  • Effective Communication (written and oral)
  • Leadership
  • Mentoring
  • Cultural Intelligence
  • Active Listening
