Master of Science in Nursing - Concentration Family Nurse Practitioner

Program Overview

Family Nurse Practitioners are advanced practice nurses who have received the additional education and training necessary to provide primary health care, health information, and community-based case management in multiple settings. As a graduate from the Wright State University Family Nurse Practitioner concentration, you will be able to help meet the growing demand for primary care and preventive care. As a master’s-prepared Family Nurse Practitioner, you will be qualified to:

Provide primary care to families and persons of all ages;
Work in collaboration with physicians and other health care providers to treat common health problems such as sore throats and ear infections, manage chronic illnesses such as diabetes and high blood pressure, and perform and interpret common screening and diagnostic tests
Care for the person as a whole and not simply the illness
Provide information needed so persons can make informed decisions about their lifestyle choices
Work with families to increase their ability to care for themselves and to become informed consumers of health care
Graduates are eligible for certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and the American Associate of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).

Graduate International Alumni Scholarship

A $10,000 annual scholarship for full-time enrollment will be awarded for F-1 and J-1 international students who have completed an undergraduate or graduate degree at Wright State and would like to enroll for a second degree. Students will need to have a GPA of 3.0 or higher at the time of admission to be eligible. The scholarship is renewable for 4 semesters so long as the student maintains a 3.0 GPA. The scholarship cannot be combined with any other Wright State funded scholarships.

Scholarship Details

Must be an international student on an F1 or J1 visa.
Must be charged a non-resident tuition surcharge.
Students may receive only one merit scholarship or tuition discount
Students must be enrolled full-time.
The annual scholarship amount is divided evenly between Fall and Spring Semesters. If you are a continuing student attending full time in the summer, complete the Summer Scholarship Request Form.
Funds are awarded as available, so apply for admission into a graduate program early.
Renewable contingent on maintaining a 3.0 cumulative GPA at the end of the academic year.
It can be used for graduate non-resident tuition only.

Work Permit

PGWP

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.
