As a student in Classical Liberal Studies, you will be challenged to make connections between history and modernity.
Through rigorous study, you will apply classical concepts in a contemporary setting to address the needs of the 21st century church and world. You will draw on the strength of a broad variety of Concordia University Chicago’s programs, including music, theology and languages, as well as the quality of worship life on campus.
In this unique program, you will work with faculty who are respected and recognized throughout the Church as well as nationally in their fields of study. Your studies will span several departments—from courses in Latin and Greek to courses on Shakespeare, and from modern European history to ethical theory.
A Classical Liberal Studies minor is also available to complement other Concordia University Chicago undergraduate degrees.

Classical Liberal Studies Career Opportunities
As a graduate of this program, you will be a strong writer and analytical thinker who is able to express thoughts logically and clearly.
This program is ideal for any pre-professional course of study, such as pre-law or pre-seminary. Classical Liberal Studies also provides a solid foundation for future graduate programs including English, theology or history.
The University’s location in River Forest is just 10 miles west of downtown Chicago, a major cultural center. Your study of art, music, history and literature will be enhanced by visits to a variety of resources including the Art Institute, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Lyric Opera, the Oriental Institute and Chicago Shakespeare Theatre.
An array of service opportunities and internships in the Chicago area also help equip you with the tools needed to be successful in your future endeavors. You can explore your vocational options with the help of professors, a campus pastor and career counselors who care about your future.
Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
