Program Overview

Originally founded as the Addison Teachers Seminary in 1864, the University has a 150-year track record of producing some of the most qualified teachers in the country.

More than a dozen CUC graduates have been recognized by the highly prestigious Golden Apple Foundation for outstanding teaching, which speaks volumes about the level of training you will receive.

As a student, you will be trained by experienced educators. Our faculty understand the day-to-day challenges you will encounter because they have been there themselves. Your professors will thoroughly prepare you for the realities you will face as a teacher.

Art Education teacher candidates learn about art education theory and experience a variety of media in their art methods classes. You'll enroll in studio classes to further strengthen your knowledge and background with various art media.

Field experiences at local schools and opportunities to teach prior to the student teaching semester familiarize teacher candidates with the role of an art educator. Teacher candidates must complete a rigorous 16-week student teaching internship in real classrooms—this means you are managing and teaching a class of your own and building your resume before you even graduate.

Art Education Program Opportunities

CUC’s Ferguson Gallery displays the art of local and nationally known artists in addition to the work of faculty and students throughout the year.

As an art education major, you will exhibit your own work in the Senior Art Show offered each spring semester.
Our campus is just 10 miles from downtown Chicago! You have easy access to world-class museums such as The Art Institute of Chicago, The Museum of Contemporary Art and DuSable Museum, plus dozens of professional art galleries.
Image, Concordia-Chicago’s student-run art club, offers a variety of studio activities and field trips to community galleries and museums. Recent activities have included:
- workshops in fabric dyeing
- glass making
- darkroom photography printing
- visiting buildings designed by Frank Lloyd Wright

Merit based scholarship. No scholarship for UG . For PG if student has 80% CGPA will get scholarship.

Work Permit

PGWP

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.
