Diploma in Investigation in Public and Private

Program Overview

This program hones your skills in analysis, communication, information gathering, interviewing, issue identification, researching and problem solving. You’ll learn to use technology to present your investigative findings, and you'll be introduced to key professional skills and industry best practices.

Things you'll learn

  • Investigative methods
  • Resource protection techniques
  • Law enforcement
  • Surveillance
  • Threat risk assessments
  • Forensic investigation techniques

Workplace experience
In Year 2, you'll participate in either an unpaid or paid field placement in consultation with the Field Placement Coordinator in an industry-related private or public organization (in areas such as investigation, insurance, resource protection, loss prevention, physical security, or public safety) where you'll get hands-on work experience in the field.

Acquire a professional licence
After successful completion of the first semester, you can apply for a training completion number, which will make you eligible to be tested, at your own expense, for the provincially regulated licences to be a private investigator and security professional (the Dual Licence). Candidates for the Dual Licence must complete Emergency First Aid and CPR ‘C’ training with a St. John Ambulance certified instructor or with a first aid trainer approved by the WSIB (Workplace Safety and Insurance Board) to comply with the provincial licences and program placement requirements.
