Graduate Certificate in Storytelling with Data

Program Overview

Storytelling with Data is a unique, first-of-its-kind Ontario College Graduate Certificate program that will prepare you to work as a new kind of storyteller - those with the ability to incorporate human centered data analysis into their work.

Students will explore the persuasive combination of story and data across the creative and cultural industries, and beyond. Standout features of this unique program will include centering human stories and using data ethically in the Human-Centered Data Analysis and fairness, accountability, transparency and ethics (FATE) courses while telling stories using data across creative and cultural disciplines (including film, television, advertising, journalism, cultural management spaces, game and esports).

Through a mix of design, communications and analytics courses, students will learn to distill complex datasets into engaging narratives. Students will incorporate data into content creation, design data visualizations, build interactive dashboards, prepare engaging presentations and craft persuasive narratives. Students will gain valuable experience working as data storytellers in authentic real-life settings through the experiential learning opportunities in Storyworks and Field Placement and Capstone courses.

Storytelling with Data is a two-semester program that is offered full-time in a unique synchronous, HyFlex delivery on evenings and weekends, allowing both domestic and international students to upgrade their skills and build a future-proof career in the new unique area, Storytelling with Data.

Program Vocational Learning Outcomes

Program Vocational Learning Outcomes describe what graduates of the program have demonstrated they can do with the knowledge and skills they have achieved during their studies. The outcomes are closely tied to the needs of the workplace. Through assessment (e.g., assignments and tests), students verify their ability to reliably perform these outcomes before graduating.
