Associate of Arts Degree in Modern Languages

Program Overview

Start your degree at NIC and receive two years (60 credits) of transfer credit toward any BC university. Learn strong critical thinking and research skills sought after by employers as you study anthropology, criminology, First Nations studies, English, geography, history, liberal studies, modern languages (Chinese, French and Spanish), philosophy, political science, psychology, sociology and women’s studies.

Modern Language
A modern language is any human language that is currently in use.The term is used in language education to distinguish between languages which are used for day-to-day communication (such as French and German) and dead classical languages such as Latin and Classical Chinese, which are studied for their cultural or linguistic value.

Associate degrees are offered at many colleges and universities throughout BC. They recognize successful completion of 60 credits of study, which is approximately 20 courses. With full-time study, you can complete an associate degree within two academic years.

Associate degrees offer a great deal of flexibility. You can choose your preferred courses from a specific list of eligible courses (scheduled and distance), making it possible to focus your studies in one specific area or explore a variety of subjects.
